Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

Charter Savings Bank is part of OSB Group, a specialist lender and savings provider whose purpose is to help customers, colleagues and communities prosper. To achieve this combined purpose, we operate in a sustainable way with environmental, social and governance matters at our heart.

We take our responsibilities seriously and know we can have a positive impact on society through our activities and commitment to our local communities, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Responding to the challenges and opportunities that ESG matters present is an integral part of how we operate, and the impact we have on our communities and surroundings form a huge part in the decisions we make as a bank.

You can find out more about the wider ESG commitments of OSB Group at www.osb.co.uk/corporate-responsibility.

Our customers

We know that time is a precious commodity. That’s why we’ve worked hard to offer our customers a wide range of products that are simple, straightforward and easy to access and operate.

And we know that the safety of your hard-earned money is extremely important, so eligible deposits with Charter Savings Bank are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit protection scheme.

Our communities

We give back to our communities in a variety of ways, including volunteering, sponsorships, partnerships, supporting community organisations, financial donations and fundraising.

Coventry Rugby Club

We began our partnership with Coventry Rugby Club in 2019, and since then we’ve helped hundreds of disadvantaged children across Coventry and the wider West Midlands area to gain access to sport, nutrition and education through initiatives like Project:500, Rugby & Reading, and Rugby in Schools coaching sessions. Find out more here.

Wolverhampton Rugby Club

Since our partnership with Wolverhampton RUFC began in 2015 we've supported them in both on- and off-field initiatives, helping the club firmly establish their status in the Midlands Rugby league.

Utilising both of these partnerships, in 2022 we facilitated a session whereby coaches from Coventry Rugby Club visited Wolverhampton to provide a training session for 100 local children – providing valuable experience for players and parent-coaches alike.

Supporting our local communities

We support a variety of local initiatives – including a donation to Wolves Play Cafe, a non-profit community organisation set up to deliver “stay and play” sessions to children under 7 (and their parents and caregivers) across Wolverhampton.

Our colleagues

The skills, expertise and commitment of our colleagues have always been fundamental to us achieving our goals, so we invest in regular training, development and employee engagement activities.

We offer many benefits to our employees and, as part of our commitment to our ESG initiatives, in 2021 we launched the Electric Vehicle Lease Scheme, and installed EV charging points at our office locations.

We’ve also been helping our communities in the UK prosper through our volunteering philanthropy efforts. We have always been active in the communities in which we operate and have a strong ethos of giving something back, so our employees have a “day to make a difference” each year to volunteer for a local good cause. These have included the Haven hospice and The Good Shepherd homeless charity.
